I am still pondering the whole "dress your age" issue and I think there's another point to be stated: dressing maturely versus dressing immaturely. While certain outfits may contain a childlike element such as sneakers or bows and others a more granny-ish style with cardigans or ancient florals, a discerning viewer should be able to see the subtle differences that make these sartorial choices neither that of a child or an old lady.
I think it can also be explained as the difference between dressing sophisticated and unsophisticated. To me matchy-matchy looks are more childlike than the subtle color coordination I usually attempt. Fit and choice of material also make a difference--most children don't have my body type.
As for my current outfit, I temporarily shortened the hem on my favorite white dress with a few safety pins. I'm wearing my crown from Whichgoose out for the first time (I received it in the mail weeks ago, but hadn't worn it out until today). I chose one of their simpler designs, but it's still getting a lot of stares... I suppose people just aren't used to others dressing with a touch of whimsy.
