I saw the line "smiles woven in every stitch" on an vintage ad referring to gingham, but I thought polka dots were an equally cheerful print. The daisies that seem to be blooming everywhere lately continue the blithe theme. However, since I'm not really a sunshine and unicorns kind of girl, I tried to keep the look grounded with lace-up heels and a black belt (my new favorite). Whenever I wear vintage I don't actually want to look like I fell out of a vintage ad or movie, so I like mixing in unexpected elements or mixing different periods. I love the fashions of the 20s or 40s, but I wouldn't trade my current decade for anything. While we might be known for our ugly tracksuits or simple jeans and tees, we also don't have a strict style code. I definitely prefer the sartorial freedom that allows people to wear jeans to the grocery store or on a night out, since it also means I can mix style inspirations and wear a hodgepodge all my own...
