If our brief visit to some Irish islands felt like the last hurrah of summer, then I'm definitely seeing signs of fall now that we've come back home.
Fall is the term that automatically trips off my tongue, but so often when I say it someone here will point out "that's so Amercian!" So I'm getting used to saying autumn, even though the season isn't quite here yet. As much as I'd love to cling to summer I'm already seeing signs of autumn everywhere we go; the days of bare legs on the beach are fading out in favor of boots and earlier evenings. Leaves are starting to turn a startling shade of red and gold. Apples are beginning to weigh down the branches of the orchards that fill our region. And you know it won't be long before there are fires in the hearths and scarves around our necks...
