Well this post was meant to go up last Wednesday, so you can see how far behind I am on things! In my defense it was my birthday last week and following that I came down with my usual post-birthday cold/flu because my body likes to celebrate getting older by reminding me how susceptible I am to germs. But I'm starting to feel like myself again and I want to share these pictures we snapped in Nottingham at the gorgeous Wollaton Hall. If it looks familiar to you, that might be because the Hall was used in The Dark Knight Rises as Wayne Manor. To be honest, I didn't really recognize it from the films (not quite the Batman buff) but we were in raptures of the architecture; it's the sort of building you slowly circle while pointing out different details. Did you notice the expression of that bust set into the wall? Look at the windows on the third floor! The interior is also a revelation with several rooms devoted to a Natural History Museum and other chambers telling you more of the history of the Hall itself. It'd be nice to visit in another season and explore the grounds around the Hall more as well, but we did see dozens of deer on our brief walk around outside (the grounds double as a deer park) before we headed to the Hall's cafe to warm our fingers with hot chocolate. All in all a very agreeable stop and another manor house off our list.
